  それだけではない。

塾に勤務したら、塾長は売り上げを過少申告していた。

「自分だけ正直に申告したら競争に勝てない」

　とのことだった。

　それどころか、絶対に英語が身につかない教材が何十万円もして堂々と売られていたし、絶対に合格できそうにない子に

「私が指導すれば大丈夫」

　　と言って勧誘していた。

「これって、サギじゃない？」

　　と思ったが、黙っていた。そういえば、同級生で睡眠学習気を買った子がいた。バカな子だったが。

英検２級の講師が、帰国子女で英検１級を持つ中学生を指導していた。東海高校を落ちた先生が、東海高校を受ける生徒を指導していた。名古屋大学を落ちて南山に行った講師が、名大受験生を指導していた。

　　脱税したお金でバンバン広告を打つ塾が繁栄し、正直に申告して貧乏になり倒産していく塾があった。高額の教材を売り抜けたら、倒産した会社があった。計画的なにおいもした。

「勝てば官軍」

  Step 2^nd grade teacher was teaching 1^st grade student.  The teacher who failed in the entrance exam to Tokai high school was teaching students who were going to take the entrance exam to Tokai high school.  The teacher who failed in the entrance exam to Nagoya University was teaching the students who will sit for the entrance exam to Nagoya University.

 

 

　　世の中の人は、敗者には無能ものと罵り、大金をつかんだヤツは無条件に称賛する。負けたらダメなのだ。

　　高校時代は、チョット触れただけで犯罪者あつかいだった女性へのタッチも、金をちらつかせると喜んでパンツを脱ぐ女子がいて驚愕だった。

芸能界を見よ。覚せい剤をやろうが、銃刀法違反をやろうが、恐喝をやろうが、暴力団とつながっていようが、関係ない。売れて大金をにぎったが勝ち。売れなきゃ、行き倒れだ。

People abuse losers and praise winners unconditionally.  Money is everything to some people.  Some women are happy to show their naked with some money even though it is a crime to touch them in ordinary life. 

In show business, they can survive even if they enjoy illegal hemp, break Gun Control Act and have connection with gangs.  Making money erases their crimes.

 

塾、予備校業界でも事情は同じだ。

銀行に行ったら

「大規模校が勝ち組、個人塾は負け組み。融資などできるわけがない」

　　と罵った銀行があった。何をしてもいいから、金をつかまないと人間扱いされない。

　　そんな日本も、世界の中ではクリーンな方らしい。中国や韓国はさらに腐敗や汚職まみれと聞く。

  In cramming schools, people are not so different.  When I talked with a bank man, he said

“A big schools are winners and small ones are losers.”

 Everyone believes whatever is fine if it makes money.  

  This is disgusting but they say Japan is much cleaner than Korea or China.

 

　　私の指導させてもらっている優秀な塾生の子たちも、バカ騒ぎを繰り返す生徒を見て、真顔で

「あの子たち、みんな死ねばいいのに・・・」

　　と、つぶやいた。この先、彼女たちは、社長になると

「バカには、適当に言って売りつければいいの」

　　と、言いそうだ。

　私は戦後派だから、闇市のことは知らない。　“焼跡闇市派”の作家である野坂昭如さんの作品をたくさん読んで雰囲気だけは想像した。当時、配給制度をかたくなに守って餓死した裁判官がいたそうだ。

　　I was born in 1956.  11 years after the war.  I know nothing about it.  But some books gave me what happened just after the war.  For example, a judge died because he didn’t want to buy rice at illegal markets.

  At that time, Japanese people had little rice and the government a ration system.  But no enough food.  Unless they bought food at illegal market, they had to die at some cities.

　私は小さい頃に

「お茶を火にかけとけ」

　高校生までは、私も日本は法治国家だと信じていた。しかし、今は違う。大学に入ったら未成年なのに、大学生はおおっぴらにお酒を飲んでいた。公営ギャンブル以外はギャンブル禁止のはずなのに、パチンコ店は完全にギャンブルだった。売春防止法があるのに、ソープランドは売春をしていることが公然の秘密だった。

　　I believed that Japan was a country under the rule of law until I was a senior high school student.  However Not now.  After entering Nagoya University, I knew students were drinking alcohol even before 20.  In Japan all gambling are illegal except public one.  However Pachinko was gambling.  Prostitution is illegal.  However everybody knew they were doing it in Soap land.

  My friend took me to a strip theater and it was obscenity and I said

“We will be under arrest!”

  My friend said

“No, it is impossible.”

　新たに不登校となる小中学生が増えている。比較できる文部科学省の調査を元に朝日新聞が分析すると、１９９３年度の約３万３千人に対し、２０１４年度は約６万５千人だった。全小中学生に占める割合は過去最高で、専門家は、従来の「不登校後」に加え、未然に防ぐ支援の必要性を訴えている。

　　The number of students who cannot go to school is increasing.  According to the data from the Mimistry of Education, the number was 33000 in 1993 but 65000 in 1995, Asahi newspaper said.

   It was the worst record and it is time to take the next step.

    一体、いつまでこの異常事態が続くのだろう。今の学校には全ての生徒に対応できる指導体制は無い。だから、浮きこぼれ、落ちこぼれが問題になって何十年も経つ。

    How long should we wait for the next step?  In my view, public schools don't have a proper system to accept all the kinds of students.  That's why very good students and very bad students sometimes stop going schools.

　　宿題など強制しても学力は伸びない。生徒本人たちが分かっているから拒否しているのに、勉強しなかった保護者たちは

「もっと宿題だ」

　と塾にさえ圧力をかける。

   It is the worst way to teach to force students to study.  However many students' parents ask teachers to give a lot of homework.  They believe they are doing right things.

　　私は宿題など出したことがないが、毎年「四日市高校」や「京都大学」に合格者が出る。頭の良い生徒は、あるべき勉強の方法が分かっているから当塾を選んでくれる。

  I've never given homework but my school has some students who pass the entrance exam to good schools like Yokkaiti high school and the University of Kyoto.  Smart students know what they have to do to pass the entrance exam and choose my school.

　　学校では、内職をしたり、理由をつけて早く帰宅して自分の好きなように勉強している。授業が終わったら、できるだけ早く学校から解放してやるべき。それぞれの性格や学力に合った勉強をさせてやる自由を与えるべき。

　　東大や京大などの難関大に合格できる生徒の出身高校は、灘、開成、ラ・サールなど私立が多い。それは、甲子園の出場校など、あらゆる分野に及ぶ。クラブ活動出身の一流アスリートなど考えられない。ほとんどはプロのクラブ出身だ。

　　学校は最低限の指導をするアマチュア活動なのだ。

  Good students don't listen to what public school teachers say and keep solving math problems.  Let them go home after school, not forcing the club activities.  Most schools which send students to the University of Kyoto are private schols.  Good athletes are usually from professional club not from public school club.

　プロになりたいのなら、プロの指導を受けるべき。特に、ここは全国学力テストでも最低レベルの三重県のさらに最底辺地域だ。最弱チームに放り込まれる生徒はたまったものではない。

　しかも、その自覚もない。下に四日市高校の合格者数を載せておくが、北勢中学校（私の母校）や東員第二中学校は、日本でも有数のレベルの低い中学校だろう。

   If you would like to be a professional, you had better find a professional to teach you.  Schools in this area is the worst according to the tests held by the ministry of education.  They don't want to study at the worst school.

  But they don't know even this fact.

　なのに、朝練だ

「クラブで遅いので塾には通えない」

　というのが当たり前なのだ。この地の常識は世界の非常識なのに。アメリカで教えていたので分かるのだ。

“Because of club activity, I don't have time to study.”

   Soccer or baseball is more important for them.

   Are they insane?

　　なんで、自分の人生をもっと大切に考えないのだろう。このままでは、将来ニートかパラサイトか非正規か。最悪の場合は、ブルーシートが我が家になってしまうのに。

　　そんな危機感もなしに、毎日テニスだ野球だバスケットだ。これは、私の目にはほとんど狂気の沙汰に見える。スポーツや趣味は、生活が成り立つ余裕のある人だけが出来るものなのに。

　　５０社、１００社受けても全て落とされる就活生が多い。その現状を知っている私にしてみれば、そんな能天気な学生が要らない企業の論理はよく分かる。

    Bad students play soccer every day without studying.  Now students graduated from universitiy have a hard time to find a job.  They visite 50 to 100 companies but no job.

  Companies don't want soccer boys.

  I don't want to teach soccer boys, either.  They misunderstand life.  Public school teachers lead them to such a misunderstanding saying

もちろん、こんなことを書いても分からない人は分からないし、分かる人は書くまでなく分かってみえる。だから、私は支持してもらえる方だけを指導させてもらってきた。

　結果的に、高学力の方ばかりになってしまった。

第百八十三章

「京都大学の採点基準」

テストには「教育テスト」と「選抜テスト」があります。学校の定期テストは教育テストで、生徒が授業をどのくらい理解しているか確認して授業進度の参考にする。

　入試は選抜テストで、生徒をふるいにかけて「合格」「不合格」を分けるだけの目的で実施します。もちろん、完全な相対評価で点数など関係なく上位の合格グループを選抜するだけ。

　　We have two kinds of test.  One is tests held in school and the other is an entrance test.  The former is to check how well students understand the contents and the latter is to divide students into 2 groups.

 

　　私の添削状況は、京大の本番に近いと思われます。つまり、ほとんどの答案は京大受験生のもの。それで、評価をする時は

「さっきのは７４だから、こっちは少し下だから６４」

　といった具合。

  What I’m doing is almost the same as the real entrance exam to the University of Kyoto.  I mean nearly all the papers are from the examinees and I check them using my experience. 

 

　京大の入試は「和訳」と「英作文」だけなので、セットの印象で評価をつけます。客観テストのように配点を決めていません。決められません。決める必要もありません。

　選抜テストは上位の３割ほどをすくい上げるために実施するわけですから、順位が全てで点数に意味はありませんし、変動します。

  The test has only translation from Japanese to English and vice versa.  It is not the objective test.  They just want good students, which means top 30% of all the examinees.  Score means nothing. 

 

　　私はそれを確認したいので、京大を７回も受けたわけです。私の英語力は７年間で変動したと思えないのに、得点は６割台から８割台まで変動しました。もちろん、基準はあると思います。二次では６５％程度が合否のボーダーですから（医学部を除く）。

  I wanted to make sure if my view is right or not.  My English ability is steady but my score was not stable.  It changed from 60% to 80%.  Of course, they must have some criteria because 65% is usually the border line.

 

  　多くの添削をさせてもらい、本番後の成績開示を教えてもらい採点基準の推測が可能となりました。私の見るところ「単数・複数」「三単現のｓ」「時制の一致」「スペルミス」「語彙不足」といった初歩的ミスを繰り返す方は５割台から下。

  I’ve check a lot of papers and knew the result of the exams my students took.  According to them, their score was under 50% if they make some mistakes about the basic rules.

 

　　基本的ミスは少ないが、文脈が把握されていないと５割より上。そのミスがないと６割台。基本的なミスがなく、文脈も把握されていると７割台。表現力とかセンスを感じさせると７割後半。赤本の模範解答を越えるような答案は８割台という感じです。

　　つまり、

「この子には来てもらっては困る」

　　というのは、他の科目で挽回できるそうにない点数―つまり、５割台以下―をつける。不合格グループに入れる。

   A few mistakes about the basic rules but it seems the examinee doesn’t understand the content.  Then he or she gets above 50%.  No mistakes, above 60%.  A good writing, 70%.  If it is just like the model answers in some reference books, 80%.

 

　　さて、質問の答えですがセットで評価させてもらう場合「和訳」「英作」がそれぞれ評価が何かと考えておりません。他のセットで添削依頼をされている方との相対評価だし、再現不可能なので自分でも一度評価したものを再度質問されても分からない。

　　申し訳ありませんが、ご理解願います。「６５」という評価は多くの場合「和訳７割」「英作６割」です。

「滅びのプテラノドン」

　　私は男だが、美人に生まれたらどんな人生なんだろう？こんなに頑張って働かなくても玉の輿で楽々なんだろうか。男どもの注目を浴びるのだろうか。すっごいビキニでも着て海辺で寝転がると男どもが寄ってくるのだろうか。

でも、あの天地真理もドラエモンのようになってしまい、美人なんて５年ももたない。

  I’m a man but how is it if I’m a beautiful woman.  Do I have to work so hard?  I just find a rich man and seduce him.  Do a lot of man gather around me if I wear a swimming suit on the beach?

But we know a beautiful woman soon became like Doraemon in several years.

 

　　英語はペラペラになったけれど、この世界には数千の言語があるという。そのたった２つが話せるだけ。５ヶ国語話せると天才という人がいるけど、全然そう思えない。数千のうちの２こ話せるのと５こ話せるので、どれだけの差があるというのだろう。。

　　そのうち、翻訳コンニャクが発明されたら意味がなくなる。

　　Now I can speak English fluently but they say there are thousands of languages in the world.  Mine is just 2 among such a big number.  They say a person who speaks 5 or more languages are generous but I don’t think so because 2 or 5 among thousand mean nothing for me.

　　塾講師をしているから「数Ⅲ」くらいは分かる。そして、その向こうに広大な数学の世界が広がっている。ここまで来るのに６０歳になってしまった。呆然とする。フランス語がマスターできるくらいで死ぬだろうが、数学もあまり先に行けそうにない。

　　できれば、ガリレオの湯川先生のようになりたいけど無理みたい。

   I’m a cramming school teacher and can solve senior high level math problems and can feel advanced level math world.  I’ll become 60 soon.  I don’t have much time to go forward.

 

　　小学生の頃に勉強をし始めた時

「こうやって勉強していけば、この世のことは何でも分かる」

　　と単純に考えていた。

　　しかし、勉強すればするほど

「何にも分かっていない」

　　という思いが強くなるだけ。

　　父は四日市高校、名古屋大学と合格していく成績の良い私を見て喜んでくれたけれど、それでもこの程度だ。

　　鉄腕アトムはアンドロイドで、エイトマンはサイボーグだったのだろうか。いつか、そういうロボットを作ろうと思っていたが、夢らしい。

  When I was an elementary school student,

“We can reach the goal if we follow teachers’ words.”

  But we had no goal.  My father looked happy when I passed the entrance exam to Nagoya University.  They said I was smart.  But I don’t think so.  I used to dream I would make Atom Boy someday.  However it seems just a dream.

 

　　人は裸で生まれ、裸で死んでいくのだ。学校の先生が

「仲良くやれ」

　　と言っても仲良くなれるわけがない。腹の立つヤツばかり。一人でいるのは、そんなに避けるべきことと思えないし。

　　少林寺拳法をやったら野蛮になった。勉強したら分からないことが増えた。世界中を旅行したら疲れた。何をやっても、病気か事故で悲惨な死に方をするのは変わりない。

　　人権などと言いながら、ろくでなしは首をくくって殺すのが社会のありよう。きれいごとなんて、たくさんだ。

  We are born and die alone with nothing.  Teachers said

“Behave well and get along with others.”, which is impossible because there are so many stupid people.  It is pretty comfortable to be alone.  Am I strange?

  I practiced Karate and became savage.  I studied hard and knew I know nothing.  I traveled and tired.  Then people die in an accident or disease.

  Teachers said no discrimination against anyone but we kill such people giving death penalty.

 

　　一生懸命勉強して科学技術を発展させた先に何が待っているのだろう。恐竜のように絶滅の危機が訪れるだけかもしれない。

　　まぁ、娘たちと孫たちが無事であればいいことにしよう。何億年先なんて知らない。食べて、寝て、今日一日が無事ならハッピーだ。

北朝鮮のような独裁が長持ちするわけがないし、政治が共産主義で経済が資本主義なんてねじれた中国も崩壊以外の道があるわけない。静かに崩壊してくれるとありがたいが、どうなることやら。

 What is waiting for us after we get an advanced technology?  Will we disappear as dinosaurs did?  I’m not interested in what will happens after thousands of years.  Eat, sleep and a happy day.  That’s enough.

 North Korea, dictator.  Communist government and capitalistic economy.  They cannot last long.  What will happen next.  Nobody knows.

 

アメリカではリアル「ターミネーター」が数年内に実戦配備されるという。戦争もロボットがやるようになるのだろう。既に無人機が爆撃を行っている。機械が人間を殺しているわけだ。科学技術の勝利のように祝っていいことなのだろうか。

Newspapers say the U.S. will dispose Terminator in a few years.  In the near future, robots kill a lot of people.  Already no pilot jets drop bombs over people.  Science might destroy us.

 

アメリカ、ロシア、イギリス、フランス、中国が国連の常任理事国っていうのも、無理がある。特権階級を作ったら不平不満が起こるのは当たり前だ。でも、平和な世界ってイメージが湧かない。どこかの国が犠牲になって、どこかの国が美味しい目を見る。そういう現実に慣れてしまった。

Only the U.S., Russia, Britain, France and China have veto.  Why?  Someday people all over the world will stand against such a discrimination. 

 

　　私たちはプテラノドンのように滅びてしまうのだろうか？

 Are we on the way to extinction?
