「神様は乗り越えられる試練しか与えない」（１）

 God will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear

（１）

　２６歳でアメリカから帰国したとき、私は

「無職で、貯金なし、資格なし、彼女なし、何にもなし」

　　の状態に陥った。アメリカから名古屋の塾や予備校で雇ってもらおうと送った７つの履歴書は返事が来なかった。お金はアメリカで使い果たした。彼女をつくるヒマなどなかった。生きていくことで精一杯だったのだ。

　　When I came home from America, I had no job, no saving, no certificate and no girlfriend.  Nothing really.  From America, I had sent 7 resumes but no response. 

　　それで、実家の近くのアパートの一室で塾を始めるしかなくなった。人口１万人ちょっとの三重県の片田舎なので、都落ちと言うか「負け組み」とさえ言えない状況だった。

  I had no choice but to start my own school in a small apartment house near my parents’ house.  I was a loser.

 

　　そこから塾を軌道に乗せて、英検１級に合格し、名古屋の塾に勤務を始めるまでの１０年間は、銀行の融資を受けるため親戚に頭を下げまくり、英検には何度も落ち、結婚は向こうの親に反対され、散々な目にあった。

  In order to get more students, to pass the 1^st grade of STEP test and to begin to work for schools in Nagoya, it took me 10 years.  I had to ask my relatives to obtain a loan.  I failed in the English tests many times.  My wife’s mother opposed to our marriage.

　　やっと危機を乗り切れるかと思った４０歳の頃に、奥さんと別居となった。ちょうど、バブルがはじけて名古屋の仕事がなくなり、少子化と、大規模塾の進出が重なり、プライベートな生活も仕事も危機に陥った。

　　At the age of 40, we were separated.  The bubble economy having continued from around the end of the Showa period collapsed at that time.  I lost my job in Nagoya and the number of children in Japan had decreased.  A big school opened near our town.  My private life and business fell into crisis.

　　そこで、危機を脱出する方策を考えた。子供たちの大学進学時期と重なりお金が必要だったのだ。取れる対策は２つ。１つは、英語と数学の塾から５科目の塾に転換させること。つまり、横方向への拡大だ。

  I had to find the way to escape the crisis.  My children went to schools and I needed much money.  There were 2 ways..  The one was to teach not only math and English but also science, Japanese and social studies.

「２つのトルゥース」（３）

 

　　私はイエス様やナポレオン・ヒルが「実証してみなさい」という言葉に従ってきた。行動が伴わない学者が一番嫌い。

　　I’ve tried to follow the words of Jesus.  I don’t like the person of words.

ヤコブの手紙 ２章
１４節―２６節「行いを伴う信仰」

聖書2:14 わたしの兄弟たち、自分は信仰を持っていると言う者がいても、行いが伴わなければ、何の役に立つでしょうか。そのような信仰が、彼を救うことができるでしょうか。 15 もし、兄弟あるいは姉妹が、着る物もなく、その日の食べ物にも事欠いているとき、 16 あなたがたのだれかが、彼らに、「安心して行きなさい。温まりなさい。満腹するまで食べなさい」と言うだけで、体に必要なものを何一つ与えないなら、何の役に立つでしょう。 17 信仰もこれと同じです。行いが伴わないなら、信仰はそれだけでは死んだものです。

¹⁴ What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? ¹⁵ Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, ¹⁶ and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?

¹⁷ So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.

　生徒の方はよく

「私は精一杯やりました！」

　　と、言う。

も、よく聞くと

「宿題を精一杯やりました」

　　という意味だと分かって愕然とする。そんなことを精一杯やったと言わない。誰でもやっていることだから。

  Some of my students say

“Ｉ　ｄｉｄ　ｍｙ　ｂｅｓｔ．”

　　Then I ask what they did.  They say they did homework.  It doesn’t mean you did your best because everybody does it.

私は高校時代、クラブを諦め「食べて、寝て、風呂に入る」以外は全て勉強に当てた。その結果、受験日の５日まえに神経衰弱で倒れて入院騒ぎを起こした。とても人に勧めたり、威張れることではない。しかし、精一杯やるという一例にはなる。

  I studied except when I eat, sleep and take a bath.  It sent me to a hospital.  Ridiculous I know.  However it is one case you did your best.

 

「自分はやる気があるんだ」

　という生徒がいても、行いが伴わなければ何にもならない。「体験型の真実」というのは、限界まで行動に移した人にしか理解できない真実なのだ。

  It is easy to say I did my best.  But is it really your best?  Maybe not.  Do you know your limit?

 

　　Ａ子ちゃんは、母親が生命保険を解約してまで自分の学費を捻出しようとしてくれたことで

「どんな手を使ってでも必ず合格して期待に応える」

　と頑張った。火事場の場の馬鹿力というやつだろう。私はそういう「精一杯やった」子をたくさん見てきた。

　　When A knew that her mother canceled her insurance plan to prepare for her tuition fee, what she did surprised me.  I say she did her best.　

 

「クラブを楽しみ、好きな子と会話を楽しみ、生徒会活動を頑張り、文化祭や体育祭を一生懸命やり、残りの時間で精一杯勉強しました。バランスが大切だと教わりましたから」

 

 “My teacher said it was important for us to study, play tennis, work for students’ body and do other things.”

 

　　私は、こんな他人の作り上げた「理想の学生像」をなぞっているだけの子で、難関高校や難関大学に合格した子を知らない。

   I don’t think the students who just obey what teachers said can pass the entrance exams to good schools.

「２つのトルゥース」（２）

 

　　受験指導をしているとハッキリ分かるのだが、難関高校、難関大学に合格していく子たちは「信念」のようなものを持っていることが多い。

「やれば、絶対にできる」

　という固い信念だ。どんなに成績が落ちても、客観的状況が絶望的でも諦めない。

　　My good students have some belief or faith, which let them study hard enough to pass the entrance exam to good universities.  However bad situation they are in, they never give up their dream.

 

　　これは、受験勉強だけに通用する話ではない。イエス様は受験生に語りかけたわけではない。私は塾経営をしている経営者だ。アメリカに住んでいる時に「思考は現実化する」（ナポレオン・ヒル）を進められて読んだことがある。イエスの山上の垂訓を経営に応用したような気がした。

  I’m not writing about the preparation to good universities.  Jesus is not talking to only examinees.  I’m running my own school.  My American friend recommended to read Think and Grow Rich. It is written using Jesus' words in the Sermon on the Mount

 

　では、この本を読んだ人は全て大富豪になったか。答は「ノー」だ。この本が歴史的名著で世界で７０００万部も売れたベストセラーであることは知っているが、読むだけではダメなのだ。

  My question is “Did everyone who read this book become rich?”  The answer is no.  Then why?  My answer is that they didn’t make enough efforts.  The principle is right, though.

 

　　サイエンスではないので、「実際に行動に移してみる」「その結果を確かめる」ことが欠かせない。英語名は「Think and grow rich」だが、本当に豊かになれるか否かはほとんど実行力で決まる。

　　This is not science and we need to put this belief into practice to prove it.  In short, this is not theory but practice.

　　私が

「英単語は６０００語覚え、数学は２０００題解く」

　　と、基本的なデータを塾生に教えると

「そんなことしたら、クラブの時間がなくなる」

「人生、勉強だけではない」

　　と、異論が出まくる。私の経験から分かることは、実行して信念の有効性を知っている子は

「できない」

　　と言わないこと。一見、無謀や無茶と思えても

「やってみなはれ」

　　となる。やりもしないで、ゴチャゴチャ言う子には、一生「成功哲学」は理解できない。

　　Numbers show examinees have to memorize more than 2000 English words and solve 2000 math problems to pass the entrance exams to good universities.  When I tell this to my students, some of them say

“We will lose time to play tennis in club activity.”

  This is ridiculous.  What is priority?

  Students who like excuses won’t understand the important view of life.

 

　　だから、受験指導をする場合、教科内容もさることながら「信念」を体系化した「信仰」を教えないと一流になれない気がする。難関高校、難関大学に合格するには有効な武器になるからだ。

 So when we teach students, we should help them to understand the power of faith to pass the entrance exam to top schools.  It could be a great help.

 

　　ところが、どんなに工夫して語っても学年上位の子しか理解というか同意してもらえない。これが、長年の受験指導から分かった現実だ。ナポレオン・ヒルの名言と言われるものを書き出してみると、

  However my experience let me know only good students want to hear my story about faith.

 

「君にそんなことができるはずはないよ」と、あなたに言ったのは誰ですか？その人は、あなたの限界を定める資格を持つほど、大きな成功を収めたというのでしょうか？ Who told you that you could not do it?  Is the person qualified to say such a thing with a great success?
失敗や逆境の中には、全てそれ相応かそれ以上の、大きな利益の種子が含まれている。人間に挫折や失敗はつきものである。問題は、そこから教訓と成功の糧を引き出せるか否かである。 Every single failure has an equivalent seed of success.  The important thing is to learn the lesson from the failure.
もし偉大なことができないのならば、小さなことを偉大なやり方でやりなさい。目標も計画もなしに成功はありえない。あなたが失敗する理由は、一日延ばしの習慣にある。  If you cannot a great thing, you should do it in a great way.
心の中に限界を設けない限り、人生に限界なんか存在しない。人生の歩みは自分自身の心から始まり、自分自身の心で終わるのです。We have no limit if we don’t have it in our mind.

　　私は絶望しているかというと、そうではない。ナポレオン・ヒルの本は歴史的名著でも、いつの時代もナンバーワンのベストセラーは「聖書」なのだ。聖書は不思議な書物で、ビジネスでも、家族関係でも、恋愛でも、なんにでも有効な言葉にあふれている。

  I don’t despair.  The bible tells the important things to people.  A lot of useful things are in the book.

 

　　この本が売れる。クリスチャンが大勢いる。これは、何を意味するのか。ネガティブに生きる人も多いけれど、ポジティブに生きる人もいるわけだ。塾生もそうで、ネガティブな生徒もいるしポジティブな子もいる。

  The bible is always bestseller.  There are a lot of Christians.  What does this mean?  Many people are living in a positive thinking.

 

　　私が検証した「１０年計画」は一部の塾生の子の背中を押しているのは確かだし、今最後の「１０年計画」の実行中だ。これも、人に話すと「無謀だ」と言われるのが確実なので、人には話さない。

  Those who are living in a negative thinking give me negative view if I tell my philosophy.  So I try to talk only with positive people.

 

 

第百三十四章

「２つのトルゥース」（１）

　　この世には２つの真理がある。

　　In my view, there are 2 types of truth.

 

１つは、１＋１＝２のように誰にも理解できる客観的な真理。つまり、サイエンス。水準が上がると、誰にでもとは言えなくなるが、一応誰にでも道は開けている。

The one is I say scientific truth.  !+1=2  Everyone can understand it.  In advanced math, it must be difficult to understand it.  However it is still open to everybody.

 

もう１つはの真理は、レリジョン。つまり、体験型の真理だ。「子供は可愛い」という言葉は小学生にも分かるが、その意味するところは自分が親になってみないと本当には理解できない。

The other is religion.  We can say we have to experience and make sure it is true.  People say our children are precious but we can understand what it really means after having our own children.

 

私は山岡荘八さんや司馬遼太郎さんの歴史小説をたくさん読ませてもらった。とても刺激を受けた。しかし、織田信長や坂本竜馬の気持ちが本当に分かったと思えない。

信長は、自分の弟を殺し、長島や比叡山で大量虐殺をしている。自らの手で人を殺した気持ちを小説を読むだけで分かるはずがない。

I’ve read many books written about Japanese history.  However I don’t think I understood great people.  Some warriors killed a lot of people.  It is impossible how they felt.

 

 

証明の方法も異なる。

The way how to prove it is also different.

 

　　サイエンスは、皆さんが学校で習った「合同の証明」のように誰もが理解できるノウハウがある。

  We have a clear method to prove it in science.

 

ところが,

But some people criticize when we say

 

「人は考えたとおりの人になる」

  People will be those whom they really want to be.

 

　と、言うと異論が出る。私は自分で実行してみて「真理」だと納得しているが、合同の証明のように他人に解説できない。いくら

「絶対に無理だと思った英検１級に合格できた」

「文系なのに数Ⅲを指導できるようになった」

　と、体験を語っても自分で成功体験のある生徒しか同意してくれない。試したことがない生徒は

「先生、なんかの宗教にかぶれてんの？」

　といった反応しか戻ってこない。

  I myself believe this is right through my experience, however some of my students don’t accept it.  Even if I could pass some difficult English tests or could master advanced math using this philosophy or belief, only good students understand what I mean. 

  Some students say

“Are you brainwashed by some sect of cult?”

 

そのとおり。私はクリスチャンで、

Ｙｅｓ．　Ｉ　ａｍ　ａ　Ｃｈｒｉｓｔｉａｎ．

 

「叩けよ、さらば開かれん」（新約聖書、マタイ伝、山上の垂訓）

Knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

 

　を信じている。

第百三十一章

「どなたか、ご存知でしょうか？」

　　あなたは尊敬する人がいるだろうか。身近な方でも、歴史上の人物でもいい。一般的には評価の定まった歴史上の人の方が尊敬されやすい。私も、織田信長や坂本竜馬などを扱った歴史小説はたくさん読んだ。

　　Do you have a person you respect?　　Your acquaintance or a person in history is O.K.  In general, a person in history is better because what he or she did is highly appreciated already.  I read many books written about 信長 and 竜馬.

　　しかし、高校で「世界史」「日本史」を学んだ時から１つ疑問が生まれた。「信長公記」や「竜馬がゆく」は貴重な書物、すぐれた小説だろうが、読まれる期間も発行部数も聖書には及ばない。

　　But I had a question when I studied the world history and Japanese history.  We have a lot of good history books but much more copies of the bible are sold for a much longer time.

　　信長は極東の島国の統一の途上で倒れた。チンギス・ハンの仕事は何十倍の地理的規模だ。竜馬を知っている西洋人はほとんどいない。ところが、イエス様はどうだろう。世界的なベスト・セラーはいつも聖書だと聞いたことがある。

  Nobunage was killed on the way to unite this country.  Genghis Khan made a much bigger country.  Just a few Europeans know Ryoma.  Then how about Jesus?  The bible sell the best in any age.

　　彼は何をしたのか。戦争もしない。大発明をしたわけでもない。ただ、語っただけだ。それが、どうして西洋の文明の基礎になったと言われるのだろう。どうして、多くの国の人たちを今も導くのだろう。

  What did he do?  No war, no invention.  Just talking.  However they say the bible is the base of European civilization.  Why?

　　もう１つの疑問は、「生物」を学んだ時のこと。DNAの螺旋構造は分かるものの、「どうしてリン酸と塩基が勝手に動いて構造物になるのか？」

　　

　　ものが動くのだから、何物かが力を加えないと無理。それも、きちんとした設計図に基づいた力。

「どこから誰がそのようなことを？」

 

   Another question is from time when I was studying biology.  I know the structure of DNA.  However why or what makes such a structure?  It moves.  What moves it?

　　

　　私は迷信は信じない。数学が大好きなオタク系の人間かもしれない。しかし、イエス様の言行録である「聖書」がどのベスト・セラーより読まれ続けるのはなぜなんだ。命は物質とどこが根本的に違うのか。

　　この疑問は解消されない。

　　だから、

「もしかしたら、神様が存在するのかもしれない」

　　という可能性を否定できずにいる。

  I don’t believe in superstion.  I love math.  But logical thinking doesn’t give us the answer to the question.  Why does the bible sell the best.  What is the difference between life and material.

 

　　こればかりは、検索をかけても答えがでません。

「算数」と「数学」は違います。

We can explain this calculation using pencils or books.

でも、例えば合成関数の場合　f(g(x))=x の場合、gとfという二つの操作をしてxに戻ったら、これは二つの操作で逆算数が成立したということでしょ？
But for example, in the case of f(g(x))=x, x and y change places.

こういうことって、例を示すことは出来るけれど一般化するのは見えるものを使っては無理。
It is impossible to explain the reason why using pencils or books in this case.

ＤＶＤや動画で何とかなるという話ではないのです。
Even if you use DVD or motion pictures, it is useless.

そうなんだよね。自分の頭で考えて問題を解くしかないのだけど、多くの人は自分で考えるのを嫌がる。
That's right. However many people don't like to think about it by themselves.
