「淋しい理系女子」（１）
先日、桑名高校の生徒が
「学年４番の子は授業中問題集ばかりやっていて授業を聞いていない」
で、私が
「で、先生の反応は？」
と尋ねると
「何も言わない」
「そりゃ、そうだよね」
The other day, a female
students who goes to Kuwana high school said
“Ｎｏ４ student is always solving math problems in any class.”
Then I asked
“Then what is the teacher’s reaction?”
“Nothing. He said nothing.”
“That’s what I thought.”

私は長年受験指導をしていて分かるのだが、学校の教師や塾の講師で四日市高校の５０番くらいまでの子や、桑名高校の５番くらいまでの子で教師や塾講師になる子はほとんどいない。
つまり、教師も塾講師もそんな上位の子をどう指導していいのか分からない。自分の授業がその子の学力向上につながらないのは分かっている。ならば、騒がないわけだし、ちゃんと成績の結果を出しているのだから放っておくしかない。
I’ve

teachers. Namely teachers in general
don’t know how to teach top students.
１、「京大二次」英作文の採点基準（ネット添削可）。
自分が四日市高校の生徒だった頃、自分より順位が上の女子は敬遠していた。不気味だし、下に見られている感じだし。その優秀な理系女子を指導することが増えてきて、彼女たちがどう世の中を見ているのか分かった。
まず、自分には楽々と解ける問題が周囲のほとんどの子が解けない。
「不思議だ」
というのが最初の感覚。決してバカにしているわけではない。ただ、
「素因数分解ならできるのに、なぜ文字になったら理解できないのだろう？」
という純粋な驚きというか、不思議な気持ちになる。
だから、塾生の子もときどき正直に
「なんで、これが分からないの？」
と口走る子もいる。
When I
went to Yokkaichi high school, I kept away from top female students because I
was afraid of being despised. I know
them well because I’ve taught such smart girls for long.
Since they are very good at solving math problems, they simply wonder
why their students cannot solve even easy problems. Sometimes they are honest enough to say
“Why can’t they solve these
easy problems?”
２、 「こうやって、京大数学が７割解けるようになりました」
高校にあがる頃には
「どうも、正直に発言すると反発をくらう」
と学んで無口になる女子が多い。
また、社会が資本主義的な厳しさの中で競争していることも分かってくる。女子がまだまだ差別待遇を受けているので、実力でのし上がるしかないことも分かってくる。生き残れそうに無い男子を恋愛、結婚の対象に見れなくなる。
Just before I went to senior high school

like honest people.”
Smart
female students also know it and they become quiet in general.
They are smart enough to know they are living in capitalistic
society. Japan is still male-dominated
society. They cannot trust boys who have
little possibility to survive.

第二に、勉強の進み方に困る。特に中学校では、クラス内に自分より学力が上の子がいない。だから、解けない問題がでてきた時に教えてもらえる相手がいない。
常に教える側なので、どこに質問を持って行けばいいのか困る。学校の先生は
「今度までに考えておく」
と言って逃げると言う。また、
「あの先生に近づきたくない」
と言う子もいる。
進学校では、全員がライバルなので質問もできない。
難関大の過去問をスラスラ解説できる講師が塾や予備校にもいない。いても、名古屋など遠方になってしまう。
Secondly, the
level in class is not appropriate for smart students. Especially at public junior high, they have no
friend to ask questions when they have the problems which they cannot solve.
They are always in the side to teach, not to be taught. When they ask public school teachers, the
answer is
“I’ll answer it later.”
They say it’s just an excuse. At
public senior high school level, all the class mates are rivals and it is difficult
or impossible to ask. We have few
cramming school teachers who can give answers to smart students.

勉強のできる子には、それなりの悩みがあることが分かった。そして、悪いことに、その悩みを口にすると学校の先生や塾の講師をバカにすることになるので、口にしにくい状況なのだ。
要するに、彼女たちは孤独なのだ。
Smart students
have problems just as bad students have. But they cannot be frank enough because their
words sometimes sound insult.
In short, they are lonesome.
